How important is order to the creative process?

From Order / 18” x 24” / Oil on linen / 2023

Lexa Walsh, the subject of this painting, is best known as a social practice artist. She recently started making objects and, to finalize work for a recent solo show, brought her project into a group ceramics studio where systems for production envelop the creative process and support the timely manufacturing of Walsh’s vision.

The systems of the space are written into the beams of the ceiling and the gridded floor. The viewer appears to be looking up through linoleum tiles.
